Presented here is a photograph of Chicago White Sox manager Kid Gleason and Cincinnati Reds manager Pat Moran shaking hands during the 1919 World Series. The back of this photograph has “10-9-19” written in gray pencil, indicating that this photograph was taken before the decisive and final Game 8 of the best-of-nine ’19 Fall Classic. The 1919 World Series was famous for the “Black Sox” scandal, where certain members of the White Sox took money from gamblers to throw the World Series. Nowhere was this more evident than in Game 8, a 10-5 Cincinnati victory that gave them a 5-3 series win.

     In this black and white, 6 x 8 inch photograph, Gleason and Moran are shaking hands near home plate at Comiskey Park. Both of these men were in their first seasons of managing their respective ball clubs. In addition to the date, “Moran & Gleason shaking hands” and “Kid Gleason” is written on the reverse side of this original vintage photograph.
