This slip of paper has been signed by four former MLB players. Two of the players who signed this piece of lined paper are Hall of Famers. Hank Greenberg, the superstar first baseman for the Detroit tigers, and Waite Hoyt, an ace twirler for the New York Yankees, among other teams, are the two Hall of Famers. Other signatures include Moe Berg, a former catcher turned spy for the Office of Secret Service, and Dutch Ruether, a two-time World Series champion and the winner of 137 big league games.
The signatures on this irregularly shaped piece of paper are written in gray pencil. The names of all of the players are written in black pen to the right of the signatures. Additionally, the name of Moe Berg is written vertically in Japanese characters. Berg, who Casey Stengel once referred to as “the strangest man to ever play baseball”, accompanied a group of Major League players on several trips to Japan, where he occasionally committed espionage on behalf of the US government. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (Z42079).
