Presented here is a baseball signed by 27 members of the 1951 New York Giants. The Giants were a team of destiny, engineering an incredible comeback to force a three game playoff with the Brooklyn Dodgers to decide who would reach the World Series. In the bottom of the ninth inning of the decisive game, Giants outfielder Bobby Thomson crushed a walk off three run home run against Ralph Branca to send the Giants to the Fall Classic. Although they lost to the Yankees, this Giants team has gone down in history as one of the most indelible clubs in baseball history, thanks to the “Shot Heard Round The World!”.
This Official National League Ford C. Frick baseball has the signature of Hall of Fame manager Leo Durocher placed on the sweet spot. Additionally, Hall of Famers Willie Mays, a rookie on the ’51 squad, and Monte Irvin have signed this baseball. Other signatures include Bobby Thomson, Herman Franks, Bill Rigney, Wes Westrum, Monte Kennedy, Dave Koslo, Clint Hartung, Sheldon Jones, Larry Jansen, Sal “The Barber” Maglie, Frank Shellenback, Al Corwin, Don Mueller, Al Dark, Eddie Stankey, Jack Lohrke, and several others.
