2017 October Legends Closing November 11

In 1932, the Chicago Cubs returned for the World Series for the second time in less than five seasons after finishing four games ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League. Rogers Hornsby and Charlie Grimm split player-manager duties, leading the Cubs to 90 wins on two fronts. Had the Cy Young award existed in ’32, ace pitcher Lon Warneke surely would have taken the honors after finishing with a record of 22-6 and a 2.37 ERA. Unfortunately for the Cubs, they ran into Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and the New York Yankees in the World Series. The Cubs fell in four games, as Babe Ruth led the way with his mythical “Called Shot” home run in Game 3.
This Wilson American League baseball has been signed by 13 members of the ’32 Cubs, including Hall of Famers Hornsby, Billy Herman, and Gabby Hartnett. Other signatures include Grimm, Warneke, Riggs Stephenson, Stan Hack, Sam Leslie, Vince Barton, Johnny Moore, Shanty Hogan, Pat Malone, and Zack Taylor. The signatures of Hack, Moran, and Stephenson occupy most of the sweet spot. These signatures have been written in black pen. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A81855).
