In 1916 the Brooklyn Robins used clutch hitting and a dominant pitching staff to compile a 94-60 record and claim the National League pennant by 2.5 games. Named the Robins in honor of congenial manager Wilbert Robinson, the Brooklyn ballclub featured three pitchers (Rube Marquard, Jeff Pfeffer, and Larry Cheney) with earned run averages under 2.00. The offense was paced by Zack Wheat, who led the team in homers (9), RBI (73), runs (76), and triples (13). Unfortunately for the Robins, the rest of their offense could not keep pace with Wheat, and the National Leaguers fell 4-1 in the World Series to Babe Ruth and his Boston Red Sox.

This Official National League Ford C. Frick baseball has been signed by 18 members of the ’16 Robins. The signing took place in 1949, at a Robins reunion. Hall of Famers Rube Marquard, Zack Wheat, and Casey Stengel have signed this ball. Other signatures include Gus Getz, Hy Myers, Jeff Pfeffer, George Cutshaw, Larry Cheney, Nap Rucker, Jimmy Johnston, Wheezer Dell, Ollie O’Mara, Ivy Olson, Artie Dede, Otto Miller, and several more. Please note that the signature of Chief Meyers is written in an unknown hand. The signatures have been written in black pen. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A81865).
