This promotional broadside is an advertisement for a Kansas City Monarchs vs Memphis Red Sox Negro American League contest held at Dietz Stadium, in Kingston, New York. This broadside is likely advertising for a Red Sox/Monarchs game held on July 7th, 1958. By this time, a decade after the integration of the Major Leagues, the Negro Leagues were struggling to retain relevance, as their best players were signed by MLB teams. This explains why two teams from the south were barnstorming through New York, as the regular avenues for success were blocked for them.
This broadside is covered in bold, blue text, vibrantly advertising what surely was a tremendous baseball game. It remains in good condition when age and weathering are taken into account. The text projects beautifully and the broadside exhibits only minor toning. This item is framed, and measures 21 ¾ x 13 ¾ inches.
