Presented here is a ticket to a New York Highlanders at Philadelphia Athletics doubleheader on June 26th, 1909. The Athletics would win the two games, beating the Highlanders 3-0 and 4-0. These games took place four years before the Highlanders would become the Yankees in 1913. In 1909, the Highlanders would finish 74-77, while the A’s rode a late season charge to a 95-58 record, good for second in the Junior Circuit.
This ticket is for a bleacher seat in Shibe Park. 1909 was the first season for Shibe, which held the A’s until 1954, when they moved to Kansas City, and the Phillies until 1970. This ticket remains in good condition despite its venerable age.
