Joe DiMaggio made his Major League debut in 1936, almost instantly becoming one of the greatest players the sport had ever known. A true natural at the game of baseball, the graceful DiMaggio won nine World Series during his 13 seasons with the New York Yankees. DiMaggio, who was also well known for his highly publicized marriage to Marilyn Monroe, was a ubiquitous figure in American culture. DiMaggio was a hitter who combined power (361 home runs) with an impeccable eye at the plate (369 strikeouts), to become at once one of the best and most unique players in MLB history. An All-Star in each of his 13 seasons, DiMaggio’s legacy still influences baseball today. A Hall of Fame inductee in 1955, DiMaggio was voted baseball’s greatest living player several decades later.
