Ageless knuckleballer Phil Niekro wore this Atlanta Braves cap in 1983, at the veteran age of 44. “Knucksie” proved age was but a number in 1983, putting up a respectable 11-10 record with an ERA under 4.00 for a Braves team that finished three games out of the NL West’s only playoff spot. Niekro pitched an additional four seasons, upping his career win total to 318, before retiring at the age of 48. In 1997, Niekro was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
This blue New Era cap features a Braves “A” logo sewn in white on the front. Niekro’s number “35”, which has been retired by the Braves, is written on the underside of the brim in black marker. This cap, which shows moderate wear, comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
