2017 October Legends Closing November 11
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/12/2017
Presented here are two items relating to Jack Ruby, the man who shot Lee Harvey Oswald on November 24th, 1963. Distraught over the death of President John F. Kennedy, slain by Oswald two days earlier, Ruby appeared at the Dallas Police Headquarters as Oswald was leaving to be transported to the county jail. Jumping out of the crowd, Ruby fired one round from his .38 revolver into the abdomen of Oswald, fatally wounding the 24 year old. Immediately apprehended, Ruby spent the remainder of his life in prison, and although his original murder conviction was overturned, Ruby passed away due to lung cancer on January 3rd, 1967, before his retrial.
The first item offered in this lot is a hospital bracelet belonging to Ruby, likely worn during the last three weeks of his life, when he was diagnosed with cancer. “Ruby Jack 31 88 01” and “WMA-12548” are printed on the bracelet. The second item is a Polaroid picture of Ruby in his coffin. It is attached to a rigid backing, and remains in good condition.
