Of all of the roughly 19,000 baseball players to appear in an MLB game, only two have hit 70 or more home runs in a season. In 1998, Mark McGwire crushed Roger Maris’ longstanding home run record by clubbing an even 70, four more than Sammy Sosa also hit that year. Just three seasons later, Barry Bonds broke the record again by depositing 73 home runs into the outfield stands. Both records seem unassailable today, much as Babe Ruth’s 60 home runs seemed similarly out of reach during 1961. Bonds and McGwire have both signed this Official Major League Allan H. Selig baseball, with Bonds placing his blue pen signature on the sweet spot. McGwire signed the panel above the sweet spot, also in blue pen. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (Z58580).
