Larry Bird revitalized a flagging Boston Celtics franchise starting in 1979, winning three NBA titles and appearing in 12 All-Star games in his 13 NBA seasons before a rickety back pushed Bird into a coaching role. Bird was a juggernaut during his playing career, averaging a double-double of 24.3 points and 10 rebounds per game, while chipping in over six assists per game as the superstar of the Boston franchise. A three time NBA MVP, Bird is the only figure in NBA history to claim MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year honors. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998 as a player, and again in 2010 as a member of the 1992 “Dream Team”.
Bird wore this white home jersey during the 1986-87 season, when he averaged 25.8 points, 9.8 boards, and 6.8 assists per game. Again an All-Star, Bird led the Celtics to a 59-23 record that season, and an ultimately unsuccessful Finals appearance against their bitter rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers. This jersey has “CELTICS” and Bird’s now-retired number “33” sewn on the front in green tackle twill. “BIRD” and a second “33” are sewn on the back of the jersey in green tackle twill. A NBA logo patch is sewn on the front left chest of the jersey. Two MacGregor Sand-Knit tags, one with a size “46” demarcation, are sewn on the front left tail of the jersey. Bird signed the front of the jersey in black marker beneath the “33”. This item comes with a LOA from MEARS (A5) and noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema for game use, and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A82325) for the signature.
