Two generations of University of Texas Heisman Trophy winners collide on this classic helmet. Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams have placed their black marker signatures on either side of this worn white helmet. Campbell was a star for the Longhorns in the 1970’s, annihilating Southwest Conference linemen and linebackers en route to the 1977 Heisman Trophy. Campbell rushed for over 1,700 yards that season, scoring 18 touchdowns while averaging an otherworldly 6.5 yards per carry. Campbell was the first overall pick in the 1978 NFL Draft, and in 1991 was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “The Tyler Rose” signed the right side of this helmet, adding the inscriptions “HT 77” and “HOF 91”.
The second signature belongs to Ricky Williams, one of the fastest and most elusive running backs in college football history. During Williams’ senior season at Texas, he rushed for an incredible 2,327 yards and 29 touchdowns, adding one through the air for an even 30 scores. Williams was awarded the 1998 Heisman Trophy for his efforts, becoming the second Longhorn, after Campbell, to win the most coveted award in college athletics. Williams signed the left side of this helmet, adding the inscription “98 Heisman” to his signature.
This helmet is game used, however, due to its age and the remarkable consistency in the design of Texas Longhorns helmets, use cannot be attributed to one specific player. It is white, with a white facemask and burnt orange Longhorn logo decals on each side. A bumper on the back of the helmet reads “TEXAS” in burnt orange letters. A Riddell bumper is located above the facemask. This helmet shows heavy signs of game use and is accompanied by a COA from JSA (S31942).
