Presented here is a cut originating from a postcard that has been signed by Satchel Paige. A flamethrower who spent nearly his entire career pitching in the Negro Leagues, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and other far flung locals, Paige is regarded by many as one of the greatest pitchers in the history of the sport. The Alabama native made his MLB debut for the Cleveland Indians in 1948 at the age of 41, and he pitched sporadically until the age of 58, when he made a one-game cameo appearance for the Kansas City Athletics. During his Negro League career, Paige was the staff ace for arguably the best baseball team ever assembled, the 1936 Pittsburgh Crawfords. In 1971, Paige was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame via the Negro Leagues Committee. Paige signed this cut in blue pen, adding the inscription “26 26 .8. 28. ST / Kansas City MO” to his signature. This item has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA (84035379).
