The 1919 World Series lives on as an infamous example of gambling in baseball and a turning point for the game in many ways. While members of the Chicago White Sox, with the help of notorious gangsters and criminals, conspired to fix the World Series, it led to the establishment of the office of the commissioner of baseball, which gave a great deal of stability to a sport teetering on the edge of ruin.

The Cincinnati Reds were victorious in the 1919 Fall Classic, triumphing over the White Sox five games to three, in the final best-of-nine World Series. In the aftermath of the World Series, eight members of the White Sox were permanently banned from baseball by the new commissioner, Kenesaw Mountain Landis, in an act that that helped to clean up the sport.

This souvenir program and scorecard are likely from Game 6, a 5-4 extra innings win for the road White Sox. Chick Gandil collected the game-winning hit for the White Sox, knocking in Buck Weaver for the Sox fifth run of the game. Both men would later be barred for life from MLB. The scored scorecard for the White Sox remains in this program, although the pages it is on are not bound in the program. It is scored in gray pencil. The cover of the program features Reds manager Pat Moran, and honors the Reds Golden Jubilee. The cover of the program shows wear, but presents well.
