Chris Sale, one of the most unhittable pitchers in baseball, wore these Mizuno cleats during his start for the Chicago White Sox on August 6th, 2014. The Sox faced off against the Texas Rangers for the final contest of a three game home series. Sale was dominant in his six innings, surrendering only a two-run home run in the second inning. He struck out nine batters, while walking only two. Unfortunately for Sale, the Sox could not muster up any offense, and the South Siders fell by a score of 3-1. This game was one of only a handful of losses on the season for Sale, who finished with a 12-4 record and a sterling 2.17 ERA in 26 starts. Sale led the American League in strikeouts per nine innings while making an All-Star team and finishing third in Cy Young balloting despite his abbreviated season.

Additionally, Sale wore these cleats on August 16th, during a White Sox and Blue Jays game that he did not participate in. It was after this game that the MLB Authenticator pulled them from active use.

These cleats are black, with white soles and metal spikes. A personalized Chris Sale logo is applied in white to each tongue, while white Mizuno logos grace each side of the size 12.5 spikes. Sale’s number “49” is applied to the heel in white numerals. Sale signed one side of each cleat in silver marker. These cleats come with MLB Authenticated holograms (L: HZ 563943, R: HZ 563944) that date use of the cleats to August 6th, as well as authenticate the signatures.
