Presented here is a Ted Williams Mitchell and Ness Boston Red Sox home jersey modeled from the 1939 season. This was the 20-year-old Williams’ first season in the Majors, as the skinny left fielder from San Diego had played the previous three seasons with the San Diego Padres and Minneapolis Millers of the minor leagues. Williams was an instant success, crushing 31 home runs while driving in an American League-leading 145 runs. His batting average of .327 and OBP of .436 were harbingers of what was to come, as Williams enjoyed a 19-season career that ranks among the best in baseball history. In 1966, Williams was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame on his first ballot.
This white, button down jersey is presented in a 34 x 42 inch framed display. “RED SOX” is sewn across the front of this jersey in red and navy blue felt. A Baseball Centennial patch is sewn on the left sleeve. Red accents adorn the chest and sleeves of this jersey. Williams signed the left breast in black marker. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (Z54303).
