Presented here is a program from the 42nd Annual National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions signed by Rocky Marciano and Jerry Quarry. The tournament took place in March of 1969 in Kansas City. Tragically, in late August of 1969, Marciano passed away in a plane crash. Marciano, the owner of a 49-0 professional record, is regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights of all-time. Marciano defended his heavyweight belt six times, defeating a cadre of incredible boxers to retain his title.
The other signature on this program belongs to Jerry Quarry, an immensely talented heavyweight fighter whose career took place in a Golden Era for heavyweight fighters. Quarry competed against fighters such as Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and Ken Norton, yet he still managed to compile a career record of 53-9. Both fighters have signed this orange program, which has the image of two fighters and the state of Missouri, in blue marker. This item is accompanied by a LOA from JSA (Z54210).
