In 1929 the Chicago Cubs won their sixth pennant in the World Series era of baseball. Powered by Hack Wilson and Rogers Hornsby’s incredible offensive seasons, the Cubs won 98 games and finished 10.5 games up on the second place Pittsburgh Pirates. Both Wilson and Hornsby hit 39 homers in 1929, with Wilson adding 159 RBI and a .345 batting average and Hornsby 149 RBI and a .380 average. Charlie Root, Pat Malone, and Guy Bush anchored the pitching staff as the Joe McCarthy-managed team eased to the pennant. They ran into the powerful Philadelphia Athletics dynasty in the World Series, where the Cubs fell in a hotly contested five game series.

This red and black stitched baseball has been signed by 25 members of the ’29 Cubbies. Hall of Famers Hornsby, Wilson, McCarthy, Gabby Hartnett, and KiKi Cuyler have signed this ball, with the signatures of Woody English, Norman McMillan, and Charlie Grimm occupying the sweet spot. Other signatures include Cliff Heathcote, Clyde Beck, Art Nehf, Fred Blake, Guy Bush, Mike Gonzalez, Pat Malone, Zack Taylor, Henry Grampp, Charlie Root, Claude Jonnard, Riggs Stephenson, Clarence Blair, Hal Carson, Mike Cvengros, Trader Horne, and Johnny Moore. Please note that the signature of Cvengros has been deemed “partially traced” by JSA. The signatures have been written in black pen. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (B82653).
