Hall of Fame knuckleballer Phil Niekro wore this jersey when he managed the Richmond Braves of the International League during the 1991 season. The AAA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, Richmond finished 65-79 in Niekro’s only season at the helm. The 300-game-winner did not lose the desire to manage after 1991, as he later took the reins for the Colorado Silver Bullets, the first all-women team since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League folded in 1954.
This jersey is a gray, button down road jersey with “Braves” and a tomahawk logo sewn on the chest in red, navy blue, and yellow tackle twill. “NIEKRO” is sewn across the back shoulders in navy blue tackle twill over a matching gray nameplate. Niekro’s number “35” is sewn on the back of the jersey in red and navy blue tackle twill. Red and navy blue piping accents the jersey. A Wilson tag with a size “44” flag and a “91” tag are sewn on the front left tail of the jersey. Niekro signed the chest of the jersey in black marker, adding the inscription “H.O.F. 97” to his signature. This item comes with a COA from JSA (S81024) for the signature and a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema for game use.
