In 1972 the Oakland Athletics began the first great baseball dynasty of the 1970s. They won World Series in 1972, 1973, and 1974, riding an incredible pitching staff and a scrappy band of hitters led by Reggie Jackson to nigh-unprecedented success. In 1972, both of the A’s playoff series went the distance, with a 3-2 series victory over the Detroit Tigers preceding a seven game victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the World Series. With the exception of Game 6, an 8-1 Reds victory, each game in the World Series was decided by one run.
This Official American League Joseph E. Cronin baseball features the signatures of 30 members of the 1972 Athletics. Hall of Fame manager Dick Williams signed the sweet spot, while fellow Hall of Famers Reggie Jackson, Rollie Fingers, and Catfish Hunter have also signed this baseball. Other signatures include Vida Blue, Gene Tenace, Blue Moon Odom, Jerry Adair, Matty Alou, Ken Holtzman, Don Mincher, Dave Hamilton, Vern Hoscheit, Dal Maxvill, Irv Noren, Mike Hegan, Joe Rudi, and several more. The signatures have been written in black pen. This item comes with a full LOA from JSA (Z58589).
