Presented here is a cut inscribed by Roger Maris, one of the best sluggers in baseball history. Maris set the MLB record for home runs during the 1961 season with 61 blasts, breaking Babe Ruth’s single-season record of 60 home runs in 1927. Maris played 12 seasons in the Majors as a right fielder, including four with the New York Yankees, and was an American League All-Star from 1959 through 1962, and AL MVP in 1960 and 1961, and an AL Gold Glove winner in 1960. The big outfielder played in seven World Series, five with the Yankees and two with the St. Louis Cardinals. Maris wrote “To Roger / Best Wishes” on this cut, but did not write his actual signature.
