As one of the anchors of the Oakland A’s pitching staff in 1988, Bob Welch finished with a 17-9 record and 3.64 ERA as the A’s won the American League pennant. Welch had a solid World Series as he pitched five innings and only allowed one earned run. However, Kirk Gibson and Orel Hershiser led the underdog Dodgers to the upset win in the Fall Classic.

This size 46 Rawlings white Oakland A’s button-down jersey was worn by Welch during the 1988 World Series during Games 3, 4 and 5. Welch started Game 3, which was the only game the A’s won, but did not factor in the decision. “Athletics” is sewn on in cursive script across the chest in green and yellow tackle twill with a paraph. Welch’s number “35” is sewn on the center left chest and on the back of the jersey in green and yellow tackle twill. “WELCH” is sewn on in green tackle twill on a matching white and restored nameplate above his number on the back of the jersey. The Rawlings tag is sewn on the inside bottom front left tail with a “2 INCH EXTRA LENGTH” tag and “SET 1 1988” flag. The left sleeve has the mostly green “Elephant on Baseball” logo patch, while the right sleeve has the “1988 WORLD SERIES” patch above “Rawlings” which is embroidered in black. This jersey displays heavy game use with numerous stains. This jersey comes with a LOA from Mears, who have noted that the nameplate on this jersey has been restored.
