Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of these United States, signed and typed this letter from 1916. Wilson, who was elected in 1912, was in the very middle of his two terms when he typed this letter on March 24th, 1916. A member of the Democratic Party, Wilson was the first Southerner elected president since Zachary Taylor in the middle of the 19th century. One of Wilson’s chief achievements was helping to promulgate the League of Nations, the precursor for the United Nations.
In this letter, Wilson is responding to a “Mrs. William M. Meredith” of Washington, D.C. Meredith made a suggestion about a “Miss Sweeney”, which Wilson states that he is unable to perform. Wilson remarks that he “can only express [his] appreciation of your suggestion and [his] unaffected regret.” He signed the bottom of this letter in black pen. This item comes in a 16 x 34 inch framed display along with a photograph of Wilson and a small plaque. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (X99017).
