The 1976 New York Yankees ended a 12 year World Series drought by winning the American League, capped by Chris Chambliss’ walk-off home run in Game 5 of the ALCS, only to be swept by the legendary “Big Red Machine” Cincinnati Reds in the World Series. However, this team was the foundation for the back-to-back World Series titles in 1977 and 1978.
21 members of the 1976 AL Champions have signed this Official American League Lee MacPhail baseball. The clubhouse signatures of manager Billy Martin and Yogi Berra are on the sweet spot, above the inscription “1976 Yanks”. On the east panel are the signatures of Hall of Famer Bob Lemon, Otto Velez, Fred Stanley, the clubhouse signature of Ed Figueroa and Sparky Lyle. The west panel with the Spalding stamp has the signatures of Willie Randolph and the clubhouse signature of Lou Piniella.
The north panel has the signatures of Larry Gura, Jim Mason, Thurman Munson, Roy White, Dick Howser, Ken Brett and Dave Pagan. The south panel has the signatures of Hall of Famer Jim “Catfish” Hunter, Tippy Martinez, Chris Chambliss, Graig Nettles and Rudy May. Most of the signatures have been signed in black ink, with the exception of Chambliss, May, Brett, Pagan, Velez and the clubhouse version of Figueroa, which have been signed in blue. The ball displays minor toning and the red laces have faded, but the blue stampings are still crisp. This multi-signed baseball comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (Q05852).
