Presented here is a baseball signed by Walter “Smokey” Alston, the long-time skipper of the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers. Alston, who had one at bat in the only Major League game he ever played in, was named the Dodgers manager in 1954 and led the Dodgers to their first ever World Series title in 1955. After the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles before the 1958 season, “Smokey” won three more titles with the team. He retired in 1976 with over 2,000 victories, seven pennants, and four World Series titles to his name. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.
Alston placed his signature on the sweet spot of this Official League Baseball. The ball bears the stamped text “Compliments Earl ‘Red’ Huber” on the panel above the sweet spot. Alston’s signature has been written in blue pen. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (S14453).
