Led by a star-studded lineup that included Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson and Boog Powell, the Baltimore Orioles dominated Major League Baseball in 1970, finishing the regular season with a record of 108-54. With legendary manager Earl Weaver at the helm, the Orioles then cruised through the playoffs, sweeping the Minnesota Twins in the ALCS before defeating the mighty Cincinnati Reds, four games to one, to win the World Series. Powell provided the biggest of blows during the season, batting .297 with 35 home runs and 114 RBIs. Of course, hitting was only half of the story with this squad as the Orioles also boasted three 20-game winners in Mike Cuellar (24-8), Dave McNally (24-9) and Jim Palmer (20-10).

Featured here is a 1970 Baltimore Orioles 10K World Series ring presented to Chico Salmon, an infielder on the team. Salmon batted .250, and hit seven home runs, in 172 at-bats during the 1970 season. He recorded a hit in his lone at-bat in that World Series. Featured in the center of this ring is an image of Memorial Stadium, the home of the Orioles. Set in the middle of the stadium is a larger round CZ, with “Orioles” underneath it. “BALTIMORE ORIOLES WORLD CHAMPIONS” appears in relief lettering around the perimeter. The right shank features a wonderful depiction of an Orioles cap, complete with team coloring. Salmon’s name and number 30 also appear, along with the year 1970 and an image of a baseball in a glove. An American League logo is displayed on the ring’s opposite shank, underneath of which is a baseball and stars display that lists Orioles’ pennant winning years of 1966, 1969 and 1970. The color work on this is simply exquisite. Salmon’s initials C S are engraved on the inside of the band, which also bears a 10K mark. This ring is approximately a size 10 ½ and it weighs an approximate 35 grams.
