Presented here are two items signed by 500 Home Run Club member Mark McGwire. McGwire broke into the majors in the late 1980s with the Oakland Athletics, promptly unloading 49 home runs in his rookie season, a new record. McGwire never stopped mashing, peaking in 1998 with a then-record 70 home runs in a single season. By the time McGwire retired in 2001, “Big Mac” had hit 583 career dingers.
The first item presented in this lot is a white, button down size 48 Rawlings Authentic St. Louis Cardinals jersey. “Cardinals” and their iconic logo is chenille stitched onto the front of this jersey. McGwire’s number “25” is sewn on the front and back in red and navy blue tackle twill. “MCGWIRE” is sewn on the back of the jersey in red and navy blue tackle twill beneath an MLB logo patch. McGwire signed the front of this jersey, which is a limited edition 157 of 583, in blue marker. This item comes with a COA from Steiner Sports.
The second item is an Official Major League Allan H. Selig baseball signed in blue pen by McGwire. His signature, located on the sweet spot, is next to the inscription “70 HR 9-27-98”. This baseball comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (RD 022333).
