This Yogi Berra ceramic player tile once hung outside the Yankee player locker room for years before they were removed during the original Stadium’s renovation in the mid-1970s. Framed to a dimension of 18.5 x 38.25 inches, the visible area of the tile measures 10.5 x 31 inches.
Text states, “Yogi Berra With the Yankees 1946-64 The Man who hit more home runs than any other major league catcher that the crowd on his “Day,” September 14, 1959. Yogi Played a total of 2,116 games as a Yankee, hit 358 homer, played in more games (75) and had more hits (71) than any other World Series player in history. For six years he led the American League in double plays.” The tile has various areas of cracks, similar to the fine crazing which occurs on vintage porcelain. From the words and dating on this piece, it appears this tile was likely created for or right about when Berra left the Yankees after the 1964 season. Attached at a later time is an 8 x 10 Yogi Berra photo, but the actual ceramic tile is signed “Yogi Berra” in black Sharpie. This item comes with a COA from JSA (N26948) for the signature and is a one-of-a-kind Yogi Berra display piece which once hung outside the Yankee player locker room in the original Yankee Stadium.
