This 1938 National League bulletin announced the results of that year’s National Baseball Hall of Fame voting, the third class to be inducted. Grover Cleveland Alexander was the only player deemed worthy of induction by the regular voters that year, garnering 212 of the 262 votes. Alexander was more than deserving of his Hall of Fame place after winning 373 games in his 20 season career, which included three consecutive seasons with 30 or more victories. Alexander’s ERA spent six seasons under the 2.00 mark, and the former Phillie, Cub, and Cardinal remains tied with Christy Mathewson for third place on the all-time wins list. In addition to Alexander, Henry Chadwick and Alexander Cartwright made up the Hall’s third class. This bulletin is dated January 19th, 1938, and measures 9 x 17 inches. Alexander signed it in black pen, with the signature of “Jack Johnson” located beneath Ole Pete’s. There is writing in gray pencil on the reverse side of the bulletin. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (Z58626).
