It is hard to come up with a collection to accurately display the greatness of Muhammad Ali, but this piece fits the bill. This shadowbox display captures vignettes from various stages of Muhammad Ali’s career. The centerpiece of the display is a signed fight robe, a classic style that calls to mind the early fights of a young Cassius Clay’s career.
This Everlast robe is white with black trim, and Ali signed it under the left breast in black marker. Below this robe is a red Everlast boxing glove. Ali signed it “Muhammad Ali aka Cassius Clay”. Above his signature is a small heart. Both the signature and the drawing were written in black marker. To the right of the glove is Neil Leifer’s iconic photograph of Ali standing over the fallen Sonny Liston during their heavyweight title fight in 1965. This fight solidified Ali’s status as the greatest heavyweight fighter in the world and signaled the downfall of the former champ Liston. Finally, a signed copy of Sports Illustrated’s 35th Anniversary issue is presented to the left of the glove. Ali signed it with both Muhammad Ali and Cassius Clay. This shadowbox measures 38x50 inches and comes with individual COAs from Steiner Sports for the signatures on the glove and the robe and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A03297).
