In 1930, Knute Rockne led the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to yet another incredible season, accumulating a 10-0 record and National Championship designations by eight official selectors. Notre Dame had only one close game that season, a 7-6 victory against Army at Soldier Field in the second to last game of the season. Notre Dame closed out the year by thrashing USC, one of their chief rivals, 27-0 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

This was Rockne’s 13th and final season as the head coach of Notre Dame. On March 31st, 1931, Rockne was a passenger on TWA Flight 599 from Kansas City to Los Angeles. The airplane, a Fokker F.10, was a wood frame aircraft that essentially disintegrated during the flight, crashing in a field and killing every passenger on the aircraft. This was an international tragedy, and led to heads of state as far afield as Norway honoring Rockne.

This review is bound in deep red, with the text “Official Football Review” and “University of Notre Dame 1930” embossed on the front in gold, as well as a gold embossed portrait of Rockne. It has been signed by 29 members of the 1930 Notre Dame team, including Rockne, who signed “Sincerely / Knute Rockne” next to his portrait in the review. Other signatures include the players Tom Conley, Frank Leahy , Frank Carideo, Marchmont Schwartz, Marty Brill, Larry Mullins, Tommy Yarr, Al Culver, Ed Kosky, Joe Kurth, Mike Koken, Clarence Kaplan, John O’Brien, George Vlk, James Harriss, Robert Terlaak, Charles Jaskwhich, Bernard Leahy, Frank Hoffman, Al Howard, Paul Host, John Rogers, Carl Cronin, Dick Mahoney, Regis McNamara, Bill Pierce, Norman Greeney, and freshman football coaches Manfred Vezie and William Jones. Many of the signatures are inscribed or personalized to Evelyn Horrall. “Evelyn Horrall per Richard Baker” is written on the first page. The signatures and inscriptions have been written in black and blue pen. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication.
