Doug Flutie did it all for the Boston College Eagles during the 1984 college football season. On his way to winning the Heisman Trophy, Flutie threw for 3,634 yards and 30 touchdowns while also averaging 5.7 yards per rush, with three rushing TDs. Flutie also orchestrated one of the most famous plays in college football history that season – his “Hail Mary” pass to receiver Gerard Phelan that beat the Miami Hurricanes on the last play of the game. Phelan did so much more than make that famous catch, as he finished the season with 71 receptions and 1,065 receiving yards. The Eagles ended their season with a 45-28 defeat of Houston in the Cotton Bowl, finishing with a record of 10-2 and ranking fifth in the final AP poll.

Presented here is a 10K 1985 Boston College Eagles Cotton Bowl Champions salesman sample ring, which features a large football-shaped red stone on which a round CZ is set. “BOSTON COLLEGE” reads around the bezel setting, while “84-85 COTTON BOWL CHAMPIONS” is displayed around the perimeter. The name “FLUTIE” appears at the top of one shank, above the words “LAMBERT TROPHY CHAMPIONS” and an image of the trophy, given to the top college football team in the East. Flutie’s # 22 helmet and an Eagles logo are shown on the opposite shank. This ring, approximately a size 10, is marked 10K and weighs an approximate 27.1 grams.
