These eight bowties were worn by legendary and influential comedian Groucho Marx during the 1950’s. The youngest of the three primary Marx Brothers, Groucho’s career spanned from 1905 to 1976. The star of films such as Animal Crackers, Horse Feathers, and Duck Soup, Groucho was integral in shaping modern comedy. Almost always appearing with his painted on mustache and thick eyebrows, Groucho would often pair this distinctive look with an equally distinctive bowtie. These ties are varied in design, but all clip-ons. One is black, with white polka dots, while another features a red paisley pattern. One is multicolored, with two ribbons handing from the bow. Yet another is almost hyperbolically large, its appearance reminiscent more of a cloth Atlas moth than a comedian’s accessory. These bowties come with a notarized Letter of Provenance from renowned entertainment impresario Joe Franklin.
