One of the prospects Boston Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski would not part with at the trade deadline in 2017 was third baseman Rafael Devers. Despite the opportunity to acquire potential experienced third baseman to bolster the Red Sox run to the American League Eastern Division title, Dombrowski instead called up the third base phenom and the rookie paid immediate dividends. Devers was called up on July 25th and in the 58 games, the 20-year-old native of the Dominican Republic hit 10 home runs with 30 RBI and a solid .284 batting average and helped the Sox to hold off the Yankees for the AL East title. Devers also hit two home runs during the ALDS against the Houston Astros, including an inside the park home run in the ninth inning of Game 4 that brought Boston back within a run of keeping their season alive.
