The newest member of the 600 Home Run Club, Albert Pujols used the 2016 season to creep ever so close to that elusive and exclusive club. Pujols’ 31 home runs in 2016 saw the slugger finish the year with 591 career home runs for the three-time league MVP.
Offered is a truly rare collectible. This Los Angeles Angels road jersey was worn by Pujols during the entire season and has been photo matched to five games in which he hit home runs. Detailed photo matches of this button-down road gray size 54 Majestic FlexBase jersey were taken on the April 17th, April 30th, May 14th, June 5th and September 4th games. On the September 4th game Pujols’ first-inning home run in the Angels 4-2 victory at Seattle set the Major League record for most first inning home runs with 134, which was previously held by Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds.
This jersey has “ANGELS” sewn across the chest in red, navy and white tackle twill with Pujols’ number “5” sewn on the center left chest in red and navy tackle twill. The Majestic tag is screen-printed on the bottom front left tail and the Majestic team tag is screen printed on the right front tail below the buttons that read “54 +1 B S1”. The back of the jersey has “PUJOLS” and “5” sewn on in red and navy tackle twill. Red piping runs along the top of the collar and an inch of both sleeve ends and the vinyl MLB logo patch is sewn on the upper back neck. The left sleeve has a circular “ANGELS BASEBALL 1961” patch and the right sleeve has the “A” with a halo patch sewn on. The sides and lower lining of the jersey are a gray mesh material. This jersey shows moderate use and comes with detailed photo matches from Resolution Photomatching, which based their findings on the loose threads on the stitched letters and numbers on both the front and back of the jersey and the alignment of the letters and numbers. This jersey also comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (JB823074), which authenticated the jersey as “TEAM ISSUED”, a common designation for jerseys collected after the season.
