Presented here is a postcard from Mickey Mantle’s Restaurant and Sports Bar humorously signed by The Mick. The design on the postcard shows Mantle standing at the top of the home dugout at Yankee Stadium, a bat perched on his right shoulder. The postcard’s design is based on a lithograph by Burton Silverman on display at Mantle’s restaurant. The postcard also cheerfully advertises hand-signed reproductions of this lithograph for sale at Mantle’s restaurant, which was located at 42 Central Park South, in New York City.
Mantle signed the front of this postcard in blue marker, adding the tongue-in-cheek inscription, “To Tom / F*ck You”. In all likelihood, this inscription is dedicated to Mantle’s Yankee teammate Tom Tresh. Mantle, who frequently appeared at autograph shows during his retirement, would often only appear if one of his non-Hall of Fame Yankee teammates were also paid to sign autographs. In this case, that teammate was likely Tresh, a three-time All-Star and the 1962 American League Rookie of the Year. This postcard is a tremendous piece of baseball history that showcases The Mick’s genial, if slightly immature, sense of humor. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A82362).
