Connie Mack took the helm of the Philadelphia Athletics during their first season, in 1901, and led them with a steady hand until 1950. Mack skippered the A’s to five World Series titles, bringing players such as Jimmie Foxx and Al Simmons to national prominence. A catcher during his playing days, Mack was nicknamed “The Tall Tactician” for his innovative managerial style and shrewd gamesmanship during his career in the National and Players Leagues. In 1937, Mack was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame as a part of its second class. This book, written in 1945, is titled “Connie Mack: Grand Old Man of Baseball”, and was written by Frederick G. Lieb. The first page is signed “To Frank May 26-1945 / With Best Wishes On His Birthday / Florence”. The second page features Mack’s signature and the inscription “To Frank Chamberlin / With best wishes and a very happy life / Connie Mack”. Mack wrote the signature and inscription in black pen. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (V08379).
