Before Babe Ruth came around, Honus Wagner had a strong claim on the title of best baseball player of all-time. A barrel chested shortstop with the grace of a cat, Wagner dominated the shortstop position for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wagner accumulated 3,420 hits in his career, a record for shortstops for nearly 100 years before Derek Jeter eclipsed his record. A World Series champion in 1909, Wagner’s undeniable talent and blue-collar work ethic made him a cherished hero of Pittsburgh. To this day, a statue of Wagner greets visitors to PNC Park.
This book, “An Informal History of the Pittsburgh Pirates”, has been signed on the first page by the immortal Wagner. The Hall of Famer signed the page in blue pen, adding the inscription “Best Wishes / Stan Rojck / Honus Wagner” to his signature. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
