Graded 20 FR 1.5 by SGC, one of just over a dozen copies recorded in SGC's census reporting. Hall of Famer. Forty-seven homers, .372 average, 145 runs batted in! All in all, Ruth's achievements of 1926 could certainly be considered productive, but not unique. The American Caramel Company of Lancaster, Pa., saw things differently. The company thought it appropriate to embellish the Babe's image a bit on card #38 in its 60-card baseball set being issued in 1927. Caramel cards were slowly going out of fashion, and Ruth's was the ideal piece that could be used to add some flair to the black-and-white, photo presentation brought forth by American Caramel's standard issues. Departing from the customary photo rectangle, the viewer sees a tiny, uniform-bedecked Babe in a bat-holding pose, superimposed over a larger, thoughtful and foreward-looking, photographic background of Ruth, himself. The dual image is strikingly different from the era's norm (actually, it's quite ahead of its time), and it emphasizes the distinctive character of this important, captivating card. This item concedes routine peripheral wear and has suffered a few creases and wrinkles. (E126's are printed on thin cardboard stock, and are rarely seen without far more extensive corner wear and creases than are observed here.) An incredibly scarce and desirable Babe Ruth card from the height of his fabled career, in Fair condition.
