This original, 1950’s Zippo lighter hails from a day when athletes frequently advertised for tobacco products. The image of a cigar or cigarette puffing athlete was ubiquitous in those days, from Babe Ruth and his cigars through Dave Parker and his dugout cigarettes. This Zippo lighter features a navy blue New York Yankees logo on one side, and the etched signature of Mickey Mantle on the other. The Mick’s number “7” is located on the upper portion of the lighter in navy blue. Mantle frequently advertised for tobacco products, however, later in his career he appeared in several advertisements pushing products to help people quit smoking. The lighter comes in its original box with a pamphlet advertising the famous Zippo lifetime guarantee.
