The 1961 New York Yankees were a juggernaut team, led by the home run hitting prowess of the “M&M Boys”, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Maris clubbed 61 home runs, setting a new single season MLB record and winning the American League MVP award. The oft-injured Mantle still set the American League alight with 54 blasts of his own. Anchored by the pitchers Whitey Ford and Ralph Terry, who compiled a combined record of 41-7, the Yankees won 109 regular season games and demolished the Reds in a lopsided five game World Series.
This baseball centennial first day cover, released in 1969, has been signed by nine members of the 1961 Yankees, including the Hall of Famers Mantle, Ford, and Yogi Berra. Other signatures include Maris, Elston Howard, Clete Boyer, Luis Arroyo, Ralph Houk, and Hector Lopez. The signatures have been written in various colors of pen. This cachet is framed with a team photograph of the 1961 Yankees in an 18 ½ x 15 ½ inch frame. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (V12098).
