They faced the San Francisco Giants in the World Series, the first matchup between these two teams since the Giants absconded to the West Coast. The Yankees won the series in seven games, as Bobby Richardson snagged a Willie McCovey line drive with runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the Yanks seven game series victory.
