Under Hall of Fame head coach Don Shula, the Miami Dolphins finished the strike-shortened 1982 regular season with a record of 7-2. They were led by their defense, giving up just 14.6 points per game (second lowest in the league) while recording 32 takeaways (19 interceptions, 13 fumble recoveries) in just nine games. On the offensive side of the ball, Andra Franklin rushed for 701 yards and seven touchdowns while wide receiver Jimmy Cefalo averaged 20.9 yards per reception. In the postseason, Miami first defeated the New England Patriots, 28-13, in the Wild Card Game. Next up were the San Diego Chargers, and again the Dolphins advanced with ease, this time by a score of 34-13. In the AFC Championship Game, Miami blanked the New York Jets 14-0 to reach Super Bowl XVII. Leading 17-13, the Dolphins gave up 14 fourth quarter points, losing the Super Bowl to the Washington Redskins (who finished with an overall record of 12-1), by a score of 27-17. Presented here is a 1982 Miami Dolphins AFC Champions original ring presentation box. This item, used to house a Dolphins AFC title ring, appears in a lovely felt, turquoise in color.
