Under head coach Urban Meyer, the Florida Gators finished the regular season with a record of 11-1, then defeated Arkansas in the SEC title game. This set up a meeting with No. 1-ranked Ohio State in the BCS Championship Game. The Gators came out ready to play and demolished the Buckeyes, 41-14, to win the national title. Quarterback Chris Leak threw for 213 yards and a touchdown, while DL Derrick Harvey was a wrecking ball, posting three sacks and a fumble recovery. The two players were named game MVPs. Gators freshman Tim Tebow recorded both a touchdown pass and a TD run.
