College football's 1990 season ended with co-national champions... and plenty of controversy. After convincingly beating Nebraska in the Citrus Bowl, 45-21, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets finished their season with a record of 11-0-1. The Colorado Buffaloes posted an 11-1-1 record, although one of their victories came in the infamous "Fifth Down Game" in which an officiating error allowed Colorado to score the game's winning TD vs. Missouri earlier in the season. Still, once the dust settled, Colorado finished ranked No. 1 in the final AP Poll, despite that controversial win. However, the UPI Coaches Poll awarded the top spot in the country to Georgia Tech.
Offered here is a 10K gold 1990 Georgia Tech NCAA Football Championship ring manufactured by Jostens. The face features the number "1" - made up of CZs - that sits on a large blue stone. "GEORGIA TECH 1990" appears in relief around the bezel setting, while "NATIONAL CHAMPIONS" reads around the outer perimeter. "ACC CHAMPIONS" appears on one shank above a logo proclaiming "FLORIDA CITRUS BOWL CHAMPIONS". Georgia Tech's record of 11-0-1 is shown at the bottom. A Georgia Tech helmet centers the opposite shank, with the name "KIMSEY" (team member Richard Kimsey) and position "DT" above, and the number 91 below the helmet, etched into an image of a football. JOSTENS 10K is marked inside the band. This ring is approximately a size 14 with the weight an approximate 35.6 grams. This item comes with the owner's original purchase LOA.
