Roberto Clemente was in the prime of his Hall of Fame career in 1967, scattering an MLB-best 209 hits across his 147 games. The offensive lynchpin of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Clemente’s sky-high .357 batting average was also the best in all of baseball, an exemplary follow-up to his 1966 National League MVP-winning campaign. Clemente hit this offered baseball for the 200th of his 209 hits in 1967, knocking a single off of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Bill Singer at Dodger Stadium on September 25th. This would be the last 200 hit season of his career.
This baseball is an Official National League Warren Giles ball, featuring moderate toning throughout. Clemente inscribed “Hit 200 Bill Singer” on the panel to the north of Giles’ facsimile signature, and “9/25 1967” to the left of Giles’ stamped John Hancock. This baseball is accompanied by a LOA from the Clemente family.
