Presented here is a signed copy of the Sports Illustrated issue from March 1st, 1971. Titled “The Slugger and the Boxer”, this issue features a stunning image of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. The two pugilists were slated to fight on March 8th, in a battle that was already being billed as “The Fight of the Century”. Both boxers were undefeated at the time, with Frazier holding the title belts in the aftermath of Ali’s suspension during the Vietnam War. Frazier retained his belts, winning a bruising 15 round unanimous decision against Ali. The two fighters would battle each other two more times, in Ali-Frazier II and the Thrilla in Manila, with Ali winning both contests. Ali and Frazier have both signed this colorful Sports Illustrated magazine in black marker. This item comes in a 13 x 16 inch framed display, and is accompanied by a LOA from PSA/DNA (AC02977).
