Pie Traynor was the first third baseman inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the BWAA, an honor he earned by compiling a sterling .320 batting average over his 17 seasons of service for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Although Traynor only cracked the 10 home run mark once he compiled seven seasons of more than 100 RBI, and was a master of the sacrifice hit. A two-time All-Star, Traynor was named the best third baseman of all-time during baseball’s centennial celebrations in 1969.
This baseball, a Spalding Official Baseball with a “lively center”, features Traynor’s black pen signature slightly off center to the left of the sweet spot. An inscription of “1955”, written in an unknown hand, is located on the panel to the north of the sweet spot. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (Z58677).
