Derek Jeter wore this cap on July 4th, 2012, during the New York Yankees 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees were down 3-1 after the seventh inning before scoring three unanswered runs in the top of the eighth inning. Alex Rodriguez kicked off the rally by drawing a walk that scored Eric Chavez and juiced the bases. The next batter, star second baseman Robinson Cano, hit a two-run single off of Jake McGee to put the Yankees up for good. Jeter went 2-5 in the game, doubling in the top of the ninth and slapping a single to right field in the sixth.
This hat is the special Fourth of July uniform cap. It is navy blue, with the Yankees interlocking “NY” logo on the front. However, the inside of the “NY” is a military camouflage pattern instead of the normal white. The MLB logo sewn on the back of the helmet has a similar pattern. “2” is written in silver marker on the underside of the brim of this size 71/8 hat. Jeter signed the bill of this hat in silver marker. This item comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (EK006858) and a LOA from Steiner Sports for game use during the July 4th, 2012 game. A LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A80598) serves as authentication for the signature.
